A CHURCH WITH HISTORY

Founded first in 1833 as a church of immigrants, we've lived our faith through many generations right here in Chillicothe, Ohio.

TAKING THE BIBLE SERIOUSLY

We take the whole Bible too seriously to take it literally, valuing God's divine gifts of scholarship and of science alongside faithful devotion.

REACHING OUT IN LOVE

We believe that love must be shown in order for God to be known, so we seek to show love in everything we do, say, think, and hope.

OUR WORK

who we are

We are a diverse collection of faithful people who thrive in community. Our relationships sustain us for the work we are called to do, and we see each person as a beloved gift from the heart of God.

ABOUT US

ABOUT US

We are a congregation of the United Church of Christ from the German Evangelical & Reformed and English Congregational Christian traditions.

We consider all of our members to be ministers of Christ’s gospel, living lives which display a commitment to justice, an embrace of faith, the generous exercise of grace, and a hopeful testimony that leads the world closer to fulfilling Jesus’ prayer “that they may all be one.”

We share a common commitment to care, acceptance, love, mission, and spirituality, with a threefold common goal: To Encounter God, To Grow in Grace, To Change the World. In this unity, we simultaneously display great diversity.

Within our congregation, there exist faithful persons from nearly every imaginable theological background, political belief, economic status, family structure, and vocation. Contrary to cultural norms, we do not build unity through conformity or restriction, but rather through the robust expression of diversity in Covenant.

Our Covenant requires the deep engagement of members, both among each other within the church and together as a united church within the world. To live a life of Covenant together, members must sincerely engage each other in matters of faith—especially in matters about which we disagree—so that our united witness may be strengthened and our faith in God deepened by the reconciling grace of Jesus Christ.
